WIRKSWORTH FESTIVAL    7-23 September 2012

This weekend, Wirksworth throws open its doors and invites you to its famous Art and Architecture Trail, opening a packed seventeen days of festivity!

Seven commissioned artworks emphasise the interactive nature of art and the importance of play.  Over 170 artists exhibit their work along the Trail, in historic buildings and unusual houses in the town - inviting you to take a sneaky peak in delicious interiors! Graduate artists are showcased in the main exhibition at the Parish Room and the work of talented Designer Makers is on show in shop windows and two designer maker markets. Whether you're looking for art to stimulate the imagination, provoke debate or that unique affordable piece to buy - there's so much to see this weekend, don't miss out!

The Art and Architecture Trail
Sat 8 and Sun 9 September, 10am to 5pm
Tickets £6 for all weekend - pick up a Trails Badge and Guide on the day only.  Under 18s go free.

Free Highlights include
Vinyl at the Moot Hall
Do you have a record with a special memory?  When you play it can you say what it means to you? What you were doing when you got it, who you were going out with, what was going on in the world? I For Wirksworth Festival, artist and vinyl junky Bill Aitchison is making a special event. He is inviting you to come along with your record, to play a track and share your memories. He will be constructing a collective memory out of all the diverse music that come up during the weekend and possibly throwing in a few of his own. It will be a fun and interesting chance to hear other people’s music and what it means to them. Bring records or memories and join in!

Lifeboat at Rectory Gardens
The Institute of Crazy Dancing Lifeboat is about slowness, kindness and taking care. It provokes questions with regard to ethics, trade, migration and sustainability. It is about getting your bearings whilst rocking gently and looking at the world from a slowly changing point of view. You are free to spend as long or as little time as you wish in a hammock –  then welcome to feedback into the provocations, either there and then or later ... The installation creates a contemplative and active space: a place of exchanges between strangers, a place for people to meet each other – to talk and think…

Plus St Johns Street Theatre's hilarious free show "I Don't Call That Art" and Street Music, provided by Outdoor Music in Wirksworth around the town
